Give tax-free from your IRA

The recent extension of an important federal law can help you and Baptist Bible College & Seminary students between now and December 31, 2009.

The government has extended the ability of those 70 ∏ or older to give charitable contributions directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts.

  • You can make a charitable gift directly from your IRA in 2008 and 2009. There is a $100,000 annual limit.
  • Your donation will not be taxed as an IRA withdrawal.
  • Your contribution will count towards you mandatory IRA withdrawal.

How BBC&S Students Can Benefit

  • You can give a year-end gift to our Student Impact Fund through your IRA. This year, our goal is $820,000 for general scholarships.
    You can donate here.

  • You can create and fund a scholarship in your name. We have a five-year campaign to increase our endowed scholarships to $4.7 million and our annually funded scholarships by $120,000. You can select criteria that match your desires.

  • You can contribute to our Phelps Student Center addition. We are less than $2 million away from breaking ground. Naming opportunities are still available.

  • You can donate to any other BBC&S project, such as a Project Jerusalem church plant, new energy efficient windows, the creation of online degrees, or the launch of new academic programs. You can fund a project close to your heart.

In 2008, an individual gave $100,000 from her IRA toward the auditorium of the student center addition. BBC Foundation worked with her and her advisor to make the gift an enjoyable process.

“It gave me great joy to make a generous, tax-free donation from my IRA to BBC&S. Nothing could be more rewarding than to make a difference in the lives of students studying to reach the world for Christ.”

We can also help you, whether you give $1,000, $10,000, $100,000 or anything in between. You will help ministry students as you make an intelligent gift.

Other Details

• Individuals aged 70 or older are required to take minimum distributions from an IRA. Many individuals do not need the funds for living expenses, and these mandatory distributions can affect their Social Security benefits.

• Even with the stock market downturn, individuals are still currently required to take distributions this year.

• Giving all or a portion of your required distribution to help BBC&S students can be a tax-smart way to affect eternity.

• Checks must be issued by your IRA administrator directly to Baptist Bible College & Seminary.

• It is best if you contact us in advance so we can help you direct your gift as you wish.

• You can utilize this law for gifts in 2008 and 2009.

• Gifts for this year must be completed by December 31, 2008.
