According to latest reports, armed men targeted Northern France and taken hostages in the town of Roubaix – which is near Belgium border. Witnesses claimed the action of gunshot to be exercised around 19:00 local time, at a gas station, near residency.
Roubaix is a place rarely known by the people. It lies 60 miles away from capital of Brussels. The town is not on security lockdown list, often. Roubaix is located just a short drive away from Brussels.
When police arrived at the incident, the bank manager somehow managed to escape from his home. But muggers held his wife, daughter and 11 month year old baby as hostages. A police source stated that, the operation continued for two hours even after hostages were taken.
Gunshots by armed men sustained surrounding the entire neighborhood, leaving residents in a dreadful situation.
French media stated that, when counter-terrorism unit RAID arrived at the scene, the hostage-takers were heavily armed. One of the assailants initially opened fire at police force with his Kalashnikov, expecting fire in return.
Local official reports killing of one suspect with a launch of a coordinated assault by the police, during operation. The second suspect was arrested as he tossed his weapon in back of a garden neighborhood.
According to Prosecutor Frederic Fevre, other members of the criminal gang are on the run. No exact number of criminals is being declared. The body of one suspect has been found from the banker’s house, along with rifle, pistol and Kalashnikov.
According to police sourcing, the following incident has nothing to do with 13 November terror attacks in Paris. The hostage situation ended successfully, and police rescued the banker and his family. The captives are now at a safe place, according to officials. Areas and local roads covering the entire town were locked down, during operation.
The main motive of armed men was to rob banker by holding his family as hostage. The incident came out to be as a criminal operation, instead of terrorism. It is obvious that, apparently France always stays on high alert due to its outrageous terrorist’s scenario, since World War II.
According to latest reports by prefectures, there were five men who held hostages. Even the bank manager was part of hostage rebellion. Several other people around the residence were injured too during the whole process.
Prosecutor Frederic Fevre hasn’t clearly specified the exact cause behind such an activity of hostage-taking. It has also been said in confidence to comfort citizens that, there is nothing to get so terrified about being taken as hostages by heavily loaded gunmen, for purpose of robbery.
Currently, France is preoccupied under intense policing and emergency. Both Belgium and Paris are also on high security alert, after the terrorism attack of November 13th – in which central Paris, restaurants, concert halls and a national stadium were targeted by terrorist attacks simultaneously, causing the precious lives of 130 innocent people. But still some aspects of Roubaix incident and its reports are quite conflicting between criminology and terrorism.
